Nintendo Switch 2 permitted for use at the 2025 Pokémon World Championships in VGC and UNITE

Now that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been out for a month, Play Pokémon have confirmed that players competing at the 2025 Pokémon World Championships in the VGC and UNITE divisions will be able to use the new console. The Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch - OLED Model will all remain eligible for use as well.

Play Pokémon confirmed on X (formerly Twitter), "YES, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be permitted for official competitive play starting at #PokemonWorlds 2025, for both #PokemonVGC and #PokemonUNITE." This allows fans watching from home to enjoy the high-energy battles of the World Championships at a smooth 60fps with a richer range of colours.

This comes after many players lamented that the Nintendo Switch 2 wasn't permitted for use at the 2025 North America Internationals, as they felt discouraged from transferring their Pokémon Scarlet and Violet save data to their new console, despite the improvements the Switch 2 update offers. Every player will now be able to enjoy the improved performance the Switch 2 offers without the added hassle of constantly transferring save data back and forth between consoles!
