Participants will each be given a random selection of six Pokémon families, which are the only ones they are allowed to used throughout the entire game. Using the Partner Pikachu/Eevee in place of any other is permitted in the case of Let's Go. Other Pokémon are permitted to use field moves and abilities, but are not allowed to be used in battle. The randomization is guaranteed to give a Pokémon that can learn both Surf and Strength. Paired Pokémon will also exist to account for version exclusives as well as giving more options. Participants are free to use either one or trade for the other if wanted, but must capture one of the pair themselves before making the trade. Trading is also permitted for evolution.
The Four Job Fiesta is a popular challenge held between June and August centered around Final Fantasy V. Participants are given four random job classes (one from each crystal in the standard format, but many variations exist), and must have one of each in the party at all times when possible. It has proven to be immensely popular, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for various charities through pledges and the "Job Fair", allowing participants to change the jobs they are given.
In recent years, the host of the event, revenantkioku, has been holding various side-events in the months when the fiesta is not active. While this was done once a month in the past, it has recently moved to two side events per month. The current events are centered around Final Fantasy II and Dragon Quest III HD-2D. This is set to be the first Pokémon challenge in the history of side-events.
