VGC Day 1 Recap from the 2025 Pokémon North America International Championships

This tournament is the final event outside of Asia before the 2025 Pokémon World Championships, held in Anaheim, California from the 15th-17th of August. Both events use the Regulation Set I ruleset, allowing the use of Paradox Pokemon, Legendary Pokemon, and a choice of two Restricted Special Pokemon per team. The following list shows the Top 16 players and their standings at the end of Day 1, as well as the teams they used and whether or not they've previously qualified for the 2025 World Championships. All teams shown below can be used in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's online Ranked Battles while Regulation Set I is running.

The first round of the 2025 Pokémon North America Internationals takes place between two legendary players, 2018 Europe International Champion Simone Sanvito and 5x Regional Champion Riley Factura.
Swiss Round 2 begins with a battle between two players with impressive achievements, 2x International Finalist Alberto Lara and 2024 Sacramento Regional Champion Michael Zhang.
Swiss Round 3 kicks off with a battle between 2023 Worlds Finalist Michael Kelsch and 2025 Melbourne Regional Champion Masayoshi Kuroo.
The featured battle in Swiss Round 4 takes place between 2024 Europe International Champion Nils Dunlop and 2021 Japan National Semi-finalist Yuma Kinugawa.
Swiss Round 5 opens with a battle between 2017 North America International Semi-finalist Cesar Reyes and reigning 2024 North America International Champion Patrick Connors.
Swiss Round 6 is a battle between two of the highest-level trainers in the game — 3x International Champion Marco Silva and reigning 2024 World Champion Luca Ceribelli. Whichever player wins is guaranteed a place in Day 2 of the competition.
Swiss Round 7 features a game between 2023 World Championships Quarter-finalist Nikolaj Hoj Nielsen and 2025 Stuttgart Regional Finalist Francesco Pio Pero. Both players have already secured a place in Day 2 of the competition.
The final game featured in Day 1 of the 2025 North America Internationals takes place in Swiss Round 8, between 3x Regional Champion Justin Tang and 2019 Senior World Champion Ko Tsukide. Both players have already secured their places in Day 2 of the competition.
