Don't miss TheSpeedGamers Pokémon: Through The Generations Marathon starting Friday July 11th, in benefit of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

As first announced back in May, the Pokémon: Through the Generations marathon from TheSpeedGamers will commence this coming week on Friday July 11th, running through to July 18th. The event, which is raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, be streamed live on TheSpeedGamers Twitch Channel.

This year's marathon will feature feature playthroughs of every mainline Pokémon generation, starting with Generations 1 & 2 on Day 1, and culminating with a Generation 9 finale on the final day. Participants will be split into two teams, Team Rocket and Team Trainers, that will compete to catch the most Pokémon throughout the marathon. As usual, it's expected that viewers donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for this marathon will be able to give nicknames to Pokémon caught by each of the teams, amongst other interaction incentives. Throughout the marathon, viewers will also be able to chat directly with the team by the Twitch Chat or through social media networks and Discord. Donations are being accepted via Tiltify.

Whereas previous year's events had operated on a 24-hour-a-day schedule, this year's event is running on a reduced schedule to allow or better volunteer overlap and to keep the event engaging throughout.
  • Day 1: Commences at 7:00pm (EST), running through to 3:00am (EST) the following day
  • Days 2-7: Commences at 9:00am (EST), running through to 3:00am (EST) the following day
  • Day 8: Commences at 9:00am (EST), concluding at 7:00pm (EST)
The team at TheSpeedGamers have indicated that they view this as a temporary change, and that they hope to return to full 24-hour coverage for future marathons.

As usual for these events, Bulbagarden will be embedding the charity stream on Bulbapedia and in the sidebar on the Bulbagarden forums during the event. TheSpeedGamers are a group of video game enthusiasts who play for marathon hours to raise money for charities. Established in 2008, the group have raised over $949,000 for various charities through their marathons. Founded out of Arlington, Texas by Britt and Chase LaRiviere, its original concept was a source of gaming reviews that eventually turned into an idea to run themed marathons with a speedrunning focus, completing games or objectives within games (such as full Pokédex completion) as quickly as possible. They have been holding Pokémon events since December 2008, with most Pokémon-themed events taking place in that month since then. TheSpeedGamers typically encourage donations towards St. Jude in their Pokémon marathons through a range of gameplay, commentary, contests, and prize incentives.

Consistent with the vision of St. Jude founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion, or a family’s ability to pay.
